Getting Started & Setup
Timeslot TV transforms your personal media collection into an authentic television experience.
- Creates living TV channels that play continuously from your media folders
- Simulates real channel surfing - content plays at different points when you change channels
- Features an authentic TV interface with channel numbers, volume controls, and station call signs
- Works completely offline with your personal content - not streaming services
Think of it as creating your own personal broadcast network from your media library. Turn it on and see what's playing, just like real TV.
Timeslot TV supports all common video and audio formats through VLC:
Video: MP4, MKV, AVI, MOV, WMV, FLV, WebM, OGG, TS, M2TS, MPEG, 3GP
Audio: MP3, FLAC, WAV, OGG, M4A, AAC, WMA
Content & Channels
Quick Setup:
- Use the Scanner Mode to browse your media folders
- Select folders you want to turn into channels
- Timeslot TV automatically assigns channel numbers and creates station IDs
- Each folder becomes a channel that plays all videos in sequence, looping continuously
You can also manually add content via the Program Guide by right-clicking channels to add folders or individual files.
Station Call Signs: Automatically generated 4-letter IDs based on folder names.
Timeslot TV works with any DRM-free content you own or have rights to use:
Personal Content:
- DVDs and Blu-rays you own (rip with tools like MakeMKV or Handbrake)
- Home movies, vacation videos, family recordings
- CDs and music albums you've purchased
- Content you've created yourself
Public Domain & Creative Commons:
- Internet Archive - Movies, TV shows, documentaries, music
- Library of Congress - Historic films and videos
- NASA's media collection - Space footage
Timeslot TV creates a consistent timeline across all channels to simulate real broadcasting:
- All channels start "broadcasting" when you first launch Timeslot TV
- Each channel maintains its own playback position independently
- Channel surfing shows content at different points (like real TV - you catch shows mid-episode)
- Timeline persists between app restarts, so channels continue where they left off
- Use Menu > Time to reset to zero or add random offsets for variety
When a video ends, the next one begins automatically. At the end of the playlist, it loops back to the beginning.
